Most sales meetings go the same way: yesterday’s numbers, today’s specials, a reminder about the CRM, and a “let’s have a big day.” Nobody leaves better at selling than they walked in.
You don’t need an hour to fix that. You need two minutes, used on purpose.
The Format
- One skill (15 seconds). Name a single, specific moment: “Today: answering ‘I need to talk to my spouse.’”
- One example (30 seconds). Say the response out loud, exactly as you’d want a rep to say it.
- One rep (60 seconds). Pick someone. You play the customer. They answer. Coach one thing, then run it again.
- One challenge (15 seconds). “Use it on a real customer today. Tell me at close how it went.”
Why It Works
Skills come from repetition, not information. Research on sales coaching keeps finding the same pattern: structured, regular coaching beats occasional pep talks. In one study of 1,200 companies, 62.3% of reps met quota where there was a formal coaching process, against 50.3% where it was left to managers (LevelEleven).
A two-minute huddle is the smallest formal coaching process there is. Run it every day for a month and each rep gets twenty focused repetitions they would never have gotten otherwise.
Make It Stick
- Rotate who gets picked, so everyone stays sharp.
- Keep a list of the skills you’ve covered and repeat the important ones every few weeks.
- When someone uses the skill on a real customer and it works, say so in front of the team the next morning.
That last point matters more than it looks. Recognition is what turns a drill into a habit.
