Why I coach

I learned selling the hard way: on a car lot, in finance and insurance offices, and knocking on doors. I've closed deals and lost deals I should have won. I've also built and led sales teams across multiple states, recruiting reps, training them in the field and watching the ones who got real coaching outsell the ones who didn't.

Before any of that, the military taught me that people perform when they're trained, held to a standard and recognized for doing it right. That's the whole idea behind Unbroken Closers, and why the logo carries two chevrons.

The story behind the name

LJ wrote about getting knocked down and coming back in his memoir, Stripped Bare, But Unbroken: A Memoir of Faith, Forgiveness, and Second Chances. Sales is a lot like life: you get told no, you get knocked down, and the people who win are the ones who show up again the next morning.

That story is now the backbone of the coaching. Each chapter carries a lesson about an inner objection, like the scarcity voice, feeling like an outsider or going it alone, and the Unbroken Assessment shows reps which one is holding them back.

LJ is a sales coach, not a counselor. He'll share his story and coach you through the sales side of what holds you back. For grief, trauma or anything heavier, he'll point you to a licensed professional. Coaching, not counseling.

What I believe about sales teams

  • Reps don't quit jobsThey quit feeling stuck, untrained and invisible. Fix those three and turnover drops.
  • Practice beats talkA lesson nobody rehearses is gone in two weeks. Every session here is more doing than listening.
  • Recognition is a systemNot a speech at the holiday party. Every month, in front of the team, with something they can hold.
  • Buyers got smarterSo reps have to get better. Trust and value close informed buyers; old tricks don't.
